Cultural Course
Course Description
Directly from the heart of Florence, the “cradle of the Renaissance”, our Art History course introduces students to the main historical art periods beginning with a study of the origins of the Renaissance period during which the production of art and architecture was encouraged for religious, political and personal enhancement.
The course will focus on the main artists of this time (Brunelleschi, Masaccio, Ghiberti, Donatello and the young Michelangelo) and also on the art patrons, particularly the Medici family, who dominated the Florentine scene until the late Renaissance. The course is aimed at art enthusiasts but also at anyone who wishes to discover the artistic treasures of this country.
Classroom based lessons are combined with on-site visits to galleries and museums in Florence, 2 afternoons per week.
