Spring, Summer & Fall Semester in Florence, Italy

Immerse yourself in experiential learning. Spend the semester in Florence with INFLORENCE ACADEMY. Florence becomes an extension of your classroom as you explore Italian cathedrals, monuments, churches, museums and galleries. You will attend Italian Grammar and Conversation classes at the Scuola Eurocentres Firenze, as well as Art History and Humanities, Visual Arts, Economy and Business classes at the INFLORENCE ACADEMY. Participants on the Semester in Florence program will live in student apartments located throughout the Centre of the City. Participants will have the opportunity to attend cultural events and optional excursions as well as social activities organized by the INFLORENCE ACADEMY staff. The IFA Center also provide support and guidance to students on each of its programs.

Student Services: The INFLORENCE ACADEMY Study Center

IFA is an independent study abroad program provider with a multinational team of staff members who all have personal experiences in study abroad.

With more than 60 years of experience coordinating high-quality overseas study programs, IFA works in partnership with U.S. colleges and universities to develop academically challenging and culturally enriching overseas study experiences in Italy. The IFA Study Center coordinates program enrollment and pre-departure preparation for students, helping to make their transition to living overseas as smooth as possible.

The fully-staffed IFA Study Center provide on-site support services to program participants. The IFA Study Center is centrally located near the main historic sights of the city including the Ponte Vecchio. The IFA Study Center are open during the week for students to use the resource and lending library, ask questions, check their email in the computer lab and collect their mail. The IFA Study Center staff provide a wide variety of on-site student services and are an invaluable resource for students who want to find out more about their host city.

Academic Curriculum

Italian Language classes are held in Florence either at the IFA Study Center and at the Scuola Eurocentres Firenze, the most popular and oldest Italian Language school of Florence. All the Scuola Eurocentres Firenze teachers are native speakers of Italian who are specially trained to teach Italian to foreigners. The Scuola Eurocentrs Firenze is a member of Eurocentres Foundation and EAQUALS as well.

Art History and Humanities, Visual Arts, Business and Administration classes are held at the IFA Study Center and include on-site lectures at museums, monuments and historical sites within and outside of Florence.

Students on the Semester in Florence program may choose from the courses well explained in our main brochure.

Beginning Italian students can expect to be in grammar classes a minimum of two hours per day, four days per week; Intermediate/Advanced Italian students can expect to be in grammar and conversation classes a minimum of three hours per day, four to five days per week.

Language classes take place in Florence either at the IFA Study Center or at the Scuola Eurocentres Firenze, which specializes in Italian language instruction for foreigners. Italian Language courses are taught at levels from beginning to intermediate/advanced.

The Conversation course is specially designed to enable participants to start using Italian immediately in everyday situations and to develop practical vocabulary. Courses are taught at multiple levels from beginning through advanced.

Application and Enrollment

The Semester in Florence program is open to participants that are 18 or older at the time of application and are not on academic (or behavioral) probation. Program space is limited. Students who meet the eligibility requirements should send in the attached application with the $250 non-refundable first payment as soon as possible. Upon receipt of your application and first payment, IFA Study Center and the University of West will send you additional application and enrollment forms. Transferable Academic Credit

The Semester in Florence program is offered for transferable college credit in Italian Language through Milwaukee – Wisconsin University which will provide a transcript upon request for the coursework completed overseas.

All courses, except Italian Language credit transfer, will be provided by University of West.

Cultural Program

Cultural learning is an integral part of the Semester in Florence program. Participants attend on-site lectures at museums and historical sites. In addition, participants have the opportunity to attend an optional excursion outside of Florence. Students will be able participate to excursions such as Siena and San Gimignano, Venice weekend, Rome weekend, Pisa and Lucca. A wide range of events are planned to give students a broad understanding of Italian culture, art, music and cuisine. Students will visit major museums churches and historical sites. The IFA cultural activity offers each participant events such as an evening of opera, concert, ballet or classical music. More information on optional excursions will be available at the overseas orientation. Excursions are chosen based on the academic curriculum and are subject to change.
